Marquette Men's Soccer Players Earn BIG EAST Honor Roll

Oct. 19, 2009

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette men's soccer players Matt Pyzdrowski and Calum Mallace were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced Monday. The honors come after the pair combined efforts to beat RV/16 Georgetown, 1-0, on Oct. 17 in Milwaukee.

Senior goalkeeper Pyzdrowski earned the shutout against the Hoyas, his fourth of the season. In 90 minutes between the posts, he tallied five saves and faced a total of 18 shots. The honor is the second of the season for Pyzdrowski, who was named to the Honor Roll on Sept. 28 after two double overtime games, a 1-0 win over Cincinnati and a 2-2 draw against Louisville.

Mallace, a sophomore midfielder, scored the game-winner against Georgetown, his third goal of the season. He has tallied the game-winner in all three of Marquette's victories this season, all one-goal decisions for the Golden Eagles. Mallace leads the team with six points, and is third in the BIG EAST with 41 shots.

Mallace found the back of the net in the 29th minute after a corner kick was redirected in the box by sophomore Michael Alfano. Georgetown boasted one of the top defenses in the nation entering Saturday's match, with a 0.60 goals against average and eight shutouts.

With the win, the Golden Eagles tallied their first all-time win over the Hoyas, and moved to fifth place in the Blue Division of the BIG EAST.
