The Marquette women's tennis team will travel to Evanston, Ill. to compete against top athletes in the region at the 2009 ITA Midwest Regional Championships. Play begins Thursday, Oct. 22 and championship matches will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Hosted by Northwestern, other participants include Akron, Cleveland State, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State, Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin and Youngstown State.
Single's qualifying play begins Thursday at 9 a.m. Doubles play will start on Friday at 2 p.m., and draws will be announced Thursday.
In the singles draw, junior Christina Ruiz earned a bye and will play the winner of MSU's Whitney Wilson and Toledo's Ashley Frey in the second round. Other match-ups include sophomore Gillian Hush against EMU's Julia Breuss, junior Rachael Hush against Toledo's Nadia Zoubareva, and freshman Kelly Barry against EMU's Karina Anuja.
Doubles play will feature Milwaukee Tennis Classic doubles champions Rachael Hush and Ruiz, and Gillian Hush and Maggie Wilson. Draws will be announced Thursday.
