LOVELAND, Ohio -- The Marquette University men's golf team led the 12-team field at the Xavier Invitational through the first round Monday with a six-under-par 282. But the Golden Eagles weren't able to hang on to their two-stroke lead, and after another 18 holes, slipped to second place with one round remaining at the Oasis Golf Club.

MU led Akron by two strokes following the first 18 holes Monday, but that margin was reversed by the completion of round two in which the Zips fired back-to-back scores of 284 and 283. Sophomore Matt Haase finished the day tied for fourth place at three-under-par 141 (71-70), while junior Kelly Kretz (T-8th) carded a two-under 142 (71-71).

Host Xavier (573) sits in third place in the overall team standings, followed by Eastern Kentucky (576) and DePaul (577).

Four MU players were in the top 10 at the conclusion of round one, including senior Mike McDonald and junior Ben Sieg who were tied for fifth place at 2-under-par 70. Both golfers shot second-round 73s and are currently tied for 14th place.

Tuesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
