MILWAUKEE - After earning its first BIG EAST Conference victory over Rutgers Sunday afternoon, the Marquette University women's volleyball team heads on the road for a pair of matches this weekend. The Golden Eagles (11-7, 1-3 BIG EAST) play at Connecticut Friday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT, before playing St. John's Sunday at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.

Marquette earned its first BIG EAST victory of the year Sunday by defeating Rutgers, 3-0. With the win, MU matched its 2008 win total (11). The Golden Eagles have never dropped a set to the Scarlet Knights (15-0) as members of the BIG EAST.

Junior college transfer Ashley Beyer has quickly acclimated herself to the NCAA Division I game at Marquette, posting double-digit kills in five of the last six matches. Beyer currently leads the team with 209 kills for an average of 2.99 per set. Over that stretch, Beyer has also averaged over seven digs per match, while playing consistent defense in both the front and back row.

Connecticut (10-9/3-1 BE) wrapped up a perfect weekend by sweeping Georgetown Sunday afternoon after defeating USF in a five-set match on Friday. The Huskies are led by junior middle hitter Rebecca Murray with 191 kills (2.45/set). Head coach Holly Strauss-O'Brien has UConn off to its best start since she took over the program in 2005.

The Golden Eagles are 3-2 all time against UConn, although the Huskies captured a three-set sweep when the two squads last met on Oct. 5, 2008.

St. John's (8-11/1-2 BE) will take on Syracuse Saturday before hosting the Golden Eagles on Sunday. The Red Storm's last match at USF (Oct. 4) was cancelled after a power outage occurred into the first set. Prior to playing at USF, St. John's fell 3-0 at Georgetown on Oct. 2. The Red Storm are led by head coach Joanne Persico in her 16th season and sophomore outside hitter Darlene Ramdin with 288 kills (4.88/set).

The Golden Eagles came out victorious in the last match with St. John's on Oct. 3, 2008, giving MU its first victory over the Red Storm in school history (1-3 overall). Live video coverage of Sunday's match will be available, courtesy of RedStormSports.com's StormTracker All-Access.
