MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team returns home for the first of three-straight home BIG EAST matches, when it hosts conference leader Notre Dame Friday at 7 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center. The Golden Eagles will then welcome DePaul to the "Al" at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles (15-11, 4-7 BIG EAST) currently reside in tenth place in the conference race and are fighting for one of eight spots in the league tournament. A win Friday over BIG EAST leader Notre Dame (16-4, 10-0 BIG EAST) would improve Marquette's chances to be included among the conference's top eight.
Sophomore Ashley Beyer leads the Golden Eagles with 326 kills (3.29/set) and ranks fourth on the team with 2.06 digs per set. In BIG?EAST matches, Beyer is first in the conference with 159 total kills (3.88/setÂÂÂ).
MU has beaten the Irish each of the past two seasons, its only wins over Notre Dame in school history, but the Irish will look to remain unbeaten in 2009 BIG EAST play. Notre Dame comes to Milwaukee riding a 10-match winning streak and has won 13 of its last 14 overall. The Irish's biggest victory of the season was a 3-0 sweep over then-No. 5 Stanford in the Shamrock Invitational on Aug. 29.
Notre Dame is off to its best start since 2005 when the Irish began the season 19-1.
The Blue Demons (6-19, 0-10 BIG EAST) are winless in BIG EAST play and have not won since Sept. 18 against Eastern Michigan in the DePaul Invitational.
Friday's match against Notre Dame will be televised on a tape-delay basis by Sports32.
Live stats for both matches will be available via GameTracker on GoMarquette.com, while a live audio feed, courtesy of Marquette Radio (WMUR) will be available as well.
