The Marquette University men's tennis team (13-6) wrapped up the home portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over Wright State on Senior Day at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles finished 11-1 overall on campus this season, with all of those victories coming via a perfect 7-0 final score. MU hasn't dropped a decision at home since Jan. 27. Prior to the match, MU recognized the two members of its 2008-09 senior class, Trent Hagan and Stephen Shao. The experienced duo has combined to collect 145 total victories and both are ranked among the school's top-five in career singles wins.
The Golden Eagles didn't drop a set in the six singles matchups and Drake Kakar secured the team win with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at the No. 6 position over WSU's Brad Krick. Shao capped his career at home with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jan Alafriz of Wright State. Also earning singles wins were Dusan Medan, Niko Boulieris, Mark Rutherford and Jonathan Schwerin.
Hagan and Shao picked up a victory at No. 1 doubles in a tiebreaker to help Marquette sweep all three matchup s and claim an early 1-0 advantage. The win was the 18th career victory for the Hagan/Shao duo.
MU hits the road for four-straight matches before opening play at the 2009 BIG EAST Conference Championship April 16-19 in Tampa, Fla.
