ALVATON, Ky. -- Marquette University senior Mike Van Sickle closed with a final-round 78 at the NCAA Central Regional on Saturday at The Club at Olde Stone. He completed round two earlier in the day after play was suspended due to Friday's scattered thunderstorms.

Van Sickle, who was the top-seeded individual in the field, finished the tournament at five-over-par 221 (73-70-78) and will not advance to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship finals later this month.

Van Sickle's last tee shot Friday came on the par-3 eighth hole -- his second-to-last hole of the second round -- where he landed on the back of the green. An eagle on the previous hole had vaulted Van Sickle up to a tie for third place, but he was forced to mark his ball on No. 8 as second-round action never resumed.

Van Sickle went on to three-putt for bogey. He finished the round at 2-under for the tournament and was tied for second place. But he got off to a shaky start in the final round with a bogey on 10 and double-bogey on 11, and never really recovered.
