MILWAUKEE - Middle hitter Rabbecka Gonyo of the Marquette University women's volleyball team was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second time in three weeks, the league announced Monday afternoon.
The senior tallied 16 kills and a .556 hitting percentage in a come-from-behind five-set win over Louisville Friday night. In two matches against Louisville and Cincinnati over the weekend, Gonyo combined for 22 kills on 39 total attacks for an attack percentage of .487.
Gonyo currently leads the BIG EAST and is second among NCAA Division I players with a hitting percentage of .434. Her career hitting percentage of .301 ranks first in program history, as does her 2010 mark of .434.
She is one of two players to start every match this season and has helped the Golden Eagles to a 21-8 record (11-3 BIG EAST). Marquette reached the 20-win plateau for only the second time as an NCAA Division I member as its 11 wins in BIG EAST play are a school record.
The Golden Eagles will make their return to the BIG EAST Conference Championship for the first time since 2006 as the No. 3 seed on Friday and will face tournament host and No. 6 seed Pittsburgh in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT.
