Gillian Hush Named BIG EAST Tennis Player of the Week Again

MILWAUKEE - Marquette sophomore Gillian Hush earned her second consecutive BIG EAST Tennis Player of the Week honor, the league announced Wednesday.

Hush went 6-0 last week, winning three singles and three doubles wins in each of MU's matches against Miami (Ohio), Cornell and No. 68 Binghamton. She has won eight of her last nine singles matches, and all four doubles matched played with classmate Paola Calderon, including the three of the week.

Against Miami (Ohio), Hush won, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6 singles, and combined with Calderon for a doubles win decided by a tiebreaker, 9-8 (4). In action at Cornell on Saturday, the sophomore clinched a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles and clinched an 8-4 doubles victory. In neutral site action against No. 68 Binghamton, Hush rebounded from a first-set singles loss, 4-6, to win the final two, 6-2, 6-3. With Calderon, the duo paired for yet another tiebreaker win at No. 3 doubles, 9-8 (5).

The Wichita, Kansas native leads the Golden Eagles with 21 overall singles wins, including 14 in spring action.
