Milwaukee - Marquette University senior Lazar Hayward has been selected to participate in ESPN's Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships and the Reese's College All-Star Game as part of the NCAA's Final Four festivities this week in Indianapolis.
The Buffalo, N.Y., native will take part in the dunk contest on Thursday night before playing in the all-star game on Friday afternoon. ESPN will feature dunk and 3-point contests beginning at 8 p.m. CT on Thursday and CBS College Sports will carry the matchup beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
"It's a great opportunity and I am thankful to have been selected," Hayward said. "Since I am not able to actually play in the Final Four, this is the next best thing."
The Indiana Convention Center will host Thursday's activities and Hayward will take to the court at Lucas Oil Stadium on Friday and play on the official Final Four court, which began its tour to Indianapolis in Milwaukee on March 22.
Hayward was also named Honorable Mention All-America by the Associated Press on Monday afternoon, becoming the 27th player in school history to claim national recognition. He averaged 18.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for MU in 2009-10 and was tabbed to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
