Women's Tennis Travels to New York for Two Matches

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team will travel to the Empire State to take on Cornell and Binghamton on Saturday, March 6 at 11 a.m. and Sunday, March 7 at 8 a.m., respectively, in Ithaca, N.Y.

Marquette (8-6) is coming off back-to-back wins over Milwaukee and Miami (Ohio). Led by reigning BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week, sophomore Gillian Hush, the Golden Eagles opened the season winning five of six before facing a number of ranked teams. Hush has 11 single duals wins and 18 overall wins.

Cornell (3-4) has posted wins over Colgate, Columbia and Rutgers. The match against Marquette on Saturday will be one of three straight against BIG EAST opponents for the Big Red, including Rutgers and Syracuse. Cornell is led by first year head coach David Geatz and five newcomers who joined the squad after last season's 6-14 finish. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.

No. 68 Binghamton (7-0) and the Golden Eagles will play on neutral territory at Cornell. The Bearcats, who rose from No. 74 in the previous Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings to its current spot at No. 68, have opened the season with a program-record seven consecutive starts. The Bearcats boast a nationally ranked singles player and doubles pair, in No. 117 junior Anna Edelman and the No. 59 duo of Edelman and sophomore Marina Bykovskaya. Junior Lauren Bates is the Female Tennis Player of the Week for the America East Conference.
