The Marquette University men's tennis team (16-5) saw its five-match winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon following a 4-3 setback to conference rival DePaul on the road in the regular season finale.

Both teams will join the rest of the BIG EAST Conference at the league championship April 21-25 at Notre Dame in the next action for each program. The winner of the eight-team tourney earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

MU opened the match by claiming the doubles point, earning wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The freshman tandem of Otavio Perim and Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley secured the point with a hard fought 9-8 decision over DePaul's Douglas Perrin and Alasdair Graetz at No. 3.

Senior Mark Rutherford made quick work of DPU's Bartosz Jozwiak at No. 2 singles, posting a 6-2, 6-1 victory to push the Golden Eagles in front 2-0. Classmate Dusan Medan earned his team-leading 26th win of the campaign with a three-set victory at the No. 1 spot, downing Graetz of the Blue Demons.

Unfortunately for MU, DePaul managed wins at the remaining four singles spots to earn the team victory. Freshmen Jacob Straus and Perim each dropped three-set encounters, with the match-deciding score coming at No. 4.

Marquette will now wait to find out its seed for the upcoming BIG EAST tourney, which will determine MU's opening-round opponent.
