MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's basketball team will host its sixth annual PINK OUT in support of breast cancer awareness on Saturday, Feb. 19, for the Golden Eagles' game against Rutgers. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center.
Marquette's PINK OUT is part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's "Pink Zone" initiative to help raise breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Over 1,000 schools nationwide will assist in this effort Feb. 11-20.
? The Golden Eagles will be sporting pink uniforms, shooting shirts, along with other pink accessories and accents during the game. The MU coaching staff as well as the band and cheerleaders will all be wearing pink.
? Marquette women's basketball pink t-shirts are available for a $10 donation. T-shirts can be purchased on game day at the Al McGuire Center, at the Marquette Spirit Shop and online at shop.marquette.edu.
? Marquette women's basketball will honor breast cancer survivors in a special pre-game ceremony. Additionally, breast cancer survivors will receive a FREE ticket to the game, and the opportunity to purchase addtional tickets for friends and family at a discounted rate.
?There will be a health fair sponsored by United Healthcare/UMR, Marquette Athletics, the Marquette University Ethnic Alumni Association (EAA), the Association of Marquette University Women (AMUW), and the Center for Health Education & Promotion on the concourse of the Al McGuire Center beginning at 1 p.m. The first 1,000 fans to visit each of the interactive booths at the health fair will receive a FREE travel-sized bottle of hand sanitizer courtesy of the Association of Marquette University Women, and all individuals who visit each health fair booth will be entered into a raffle to win great prizes. Raffle prizes include basketballs autographed by Buzz Williams and Terri Mitchell, Marquette Girls Basketball Camp experience, Spirit Shop gift cards and more.
?A bra drive in which all donated new or gently used bras will go to the Sexual Assault Treatment Center of Greater Milwaukee. Collection boxes will be located in the Al McGuire Center lobby, the Alumni Memorial Union, College of Nursing building and various residence halls on campus.
?A 3-point attack against breast cancer. One can pledge $5, $10, or any other amount for each MU 3-pointer made on February 19. There is also an option to give a flat donation.
Where donations will go
Over the last five years, Marquette has raised thousands of dollars for the Milwaukee Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Program (MBCCAP). This year all money raised will be divided between the MBCCAP and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
