Plouffe Paces MU Over Prairie View A&M, 71-51

ST. THOMAS, U.S.V.I - Sophomore Katherine Plouffe scored a career-high 22 points and the Marquette women's basketball team used a big second half to defeat Prairie View A&M, 71-51, Friday evening at the Paradise Jam.

The Golden Eagles improve to 3-0, while the Panthers drop their third straight and fall to 1-3.

Including Plouffe, the Golden Eagles had four players score in double figures. Apiew Ojulu chipped in a career-high 15 points and nine rebounds, Arlesia Morse added 11 points and Chelsie Butler contributed 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Golden Eagles shot a season-high 57.4 percent from the field connecting on 27 of their 47 shots from the floor, and dominated on the glass 43-25.

Jeanette Jackson led Prairie View with 18 points, while the Panthers only shot 29 percent for the game (18-of-62), including 13.9 percent (5-of-36) in the second half.

After trailing at halftime by two points, 33-31, Marquette jumped on a 12-2 run out of the gate to go ahead 43-35 with 14:19 left and never let the Panthers come closer than six points for the remainder of the game. The Golden Eagles led by as many as 22 points with 1:54 left to play.

The Golden Eagles will close out play at the Paradise Jam on Saturday against Michigan at 7 p.m. CT.

Game Notes
- Head coach Terri Mitchell is one win shy of her 300th win. Mitchell stands 299-173 all-time at Marquette.
- Katherine Plouffe scored a career-high 22 points in the win. It marked Plouffe's first 20-plus point game of her career. She is the second Golden Eagle to register 20-or-more points in a game this season. It was her fourth game of the season in double figures, 14th of her career. Marquette is 10-4 all-time when Plouffe scores in double figures.
- Marquette is 2-0 this season when Plouffe leads MU in scoring.
- Plouffe's nine made field goals were also a career high.
- Plouffe dished five assists to mark the third straight game she has registered five-or-more assists. Sarina Simmons and Gabi Minix each added five assists apiece.
- Marquette shot a season-high 57.4 percent from the floor. It is the first time this season MU has made 50 percent or more of its field goal attempts and the first time since MU played Pittsburgh in the BIG EAST Conference Championship (March 5, 2011) it has made at least half of its field goal attempts (50 percent).
- The Golden Eagles recorded a season-high 43 rebounds and 21 assists. The Golden Eagles are 2-2 this season when winning the rebounding battle.
- Apiew Ojulu contributed a career-high 15 points, which also marked the second time this season Ojulu has scored in double figures. Ojulu led MU on the glass for the first time this season with nine rebounds.
- Marquette is 2-0 against teams from the SWAC this season.
- Marquette is 43-45 all-time in regular season tournament play.
- Marquette owns a 129-53 mark in regular season non-conference games
