MILWAUKEE - Marquette University head women's basketball coach Terri Mitchell has announced the signing of Cristina Bigica, a 6-foot-1 guard from Romania, to a National Letter of Intent. Bigica will join the Golden Eagles in the fall of 2011 and have four years of eligibility.
"Even though she will be coming in as freshman, the experience Cristina has had on the international level gives us maturity on the court, which will be an asset to this team," said Mitchell. "She is incredibly versatile and we will use her at a variety of positions. She is a winner and we are excited to have her at Marquette. When I went to visit her in Romania, I knew she would be a perfect fit for our family."
Bigica was named the most valuable player at the 2010 FIBA U-18 Division B Championships after averaging 17.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. She averaged 13.5 points in 24.4 minutes per game while playing for her club team, Olimpia (Romania) this past season.
She joins Margeaux Dupuy (Grapevine, Texas./Grapevine), Apiew Ojulu (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North), Lauren Tibbs (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott), Chelsie Butler (Minerva, Ohio/Minerva) and Arlesia Morse (Flint, Mich./Hamady) in Marquette's 2011 recruiting class.
