The Marquette University men's tennis team continues its homestand this weekend as it welcomes Detroit and Green Bay to the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. MU will face the Titans on Saturday, April 9 at noon and wrap up the weekend's play with a match against the Phoenix on Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m.
The Golden Eagles (11-9) suffered a tough, 4-3, defeat in their last dual match against Toledo on April 1. The loss against the Rockets marked the first in seven home matches this season for MU. Freshman Dan Mamalat is 7-3 in his last ten singles matches, including a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, come-from-behind win over Toledo's Likitkumchorn at the No. 2 spot last Friday. The victory improved Mamalat's current winning streak to three.
Detroit (6-10) enters the weekend having won two of its last three, which includes a 6-1 victory over Duquesne on April 3. Sophomore doubles partners Cesar Serrano and Chris Cheung are 6-1 at the No. 3 spot this spring.
Green Bay (11-6) captured two wins over Horizon League conference foes, Butler and Wright State, on April 2 and 3. The Phoenix is 8-5 against non-conference opponents this spring. Josh Oothoudt and Erik Finkenbrink are 13-3 in dual matches and have won seven straight for Green Bay at the No. 2 doubles spot.
Green Bay and Detroit will square off on Friday, April 8 at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium before taking on Marquette over the weekend.
