Former Marquette Standouts Continue Careers In Pro Ranks

Several former Marquette men's basketball basketball players have continued their playing careers after MU both domestically and internationally. Below is a quick recap of several individual's 2010-11 seasons.

Lazar Hayward (Class of 2010) - Minnesota Timberwolves
3.8 PPG, 35.7 FG% (42 games)

Wesley Matthews ('09) - Portland Trail Blazers, starter (69 games)
15.9 PPG, 44.9 FG%, 40.7 3P%

During the playoffs Matthews started in all six games the Trail Blazers played. Portland eventually lost their first round series to Dallas.

Steve Novak ('06) - San Antonio Spurs
52.5 FG%, 54.8 3P% (23 games)

The Spurs wound up losing their first round playoff series to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Dwyane Wade - Miami Heat, starter (76 games)
25.5 PPG, 50.0 FG%

The Heat are still alive in the 2011 NBA Playoffs and are playing the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Jerel McNeal ('09) - Rio Grande Valley Vipers (NBA D-League), starter
19.4 PPG, 4.4 APG, 45.8 FG%, 36.2 3P% (47 games)

The Vipers reached the NBA D-League Finals but fell to the Iowa Energy. McNeal's season was highlighted by receiving his first Gatorade Call-Up to the NBA where he earned a ten-day contract with the New Orleans Hornets. McNeal was also named a 2011 NBA D-League All-Star.

Many former Marquette players have also continued their playing careers and flourished in play outside of the United States.

Maurice Acker ('10) - Quebec Kebs (Canada-PBL), starter
8.5 PPG, 3.7APG, 40.9 FG%

The Kebs were the eventual PBL regular season runners-up.

David Cubillan ('10) - Trotamunda de Carabobo (Venezuela-LPB), starter
16.8 PPG, 3.4 APG, 55.9 FG%, 40.0 3P%

Cubillan racked up the honors in the fall of 2010 being named to the All-Venezuelan LNB First Team and LNB All-Domestic Players Team.

Dwight Burke ('09) - BK Nova Hut Ostrava (Czech Rep.-NBL), starter
13.5 PPG, 7.6 RPG

Burke also received Czech Republic NBL All-Star honors for his play this past season. In May 2011 Burke moved to ALM Evreux Basket (France-ProB) where he is part of the starting five. The Evreux are currently beginning quarterfinal play.

Dominic James ('09) - Lukoil Academik Sofia (Bulgaria-NBL), starter
13.9 PPG, 3.9 APG, 66.5 FG%

James was sidelined in early April with a foot injury that eventually required surgery.

Ousmane Barro ('08) signed in December 2010 with Zob Ahan Esfahan (Iran-Superleague) and was part of the starting five.

Trend Blackledge ('08) - Osaka Evessa (Japan-BJ League), starter
10.2 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 58.6 FG%

Dan Fitzgerald ('08) - Ratiopharm (Germany)
8.3 PPG, 62.5 FG%, 41.3 3P%

Joe Chapman ('06) - Newcastle Eagles (UK), starter
19.8 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 3.8 APG, 58.2 FG%

Chris Grimm ('06) - ADA Blois Basket (France-NM1)
12.3 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 58.3 FG%

Grimm suffered an ankle injury only 10 games into the season on November 6, 2010.

Travis Diener ('05) - Dinamo Sassari (Italy-SerieA), starter
13.2 PPG, 4.6 APG, 47.5 FG%, 36.7 3P%

Diener was also named to the Italian SerieA All-Star Team and his team is currently in quarterfinal play.

Marcus Jackson ('05) - Lechugueros de Leon (Mexico-LNBP), starter
7.6 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 58.2 FG%

Scott Merritt ('04) - Link Tochigi Brex (Japan-BL), starter
13.2 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 51.9 FG%

Cordell Henry ('02) - Guaros De Lara (Venezuela-LPB), starter
12.3 PPG, 44.9 FG%, 48.1 3P%

Henry began the season with Sport Lisboa Benfica (Portugal-LPB) but left in December 2010 and moved to Fuerza Regia Monterrey (Mexico-LNBP) in January 2011. Henry started seven games for Fuerza Regia and averaged 7.4 points per game. In February, Henry signed with Guaros de Lara (Venezuela-LPB).

Oluoma Nnamaka ('02) - Fastweb Junior Casale Monferrato (Italy-Lega2), starter
5.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 64.0 FG%

Amal McCaskill ('96) - Daegu Orions (Korea-KBL), starter
14.9 PPG, 6.7 RPG

McCaskill began the season with Inchon ET Land Elephants (Korea-KBL) but moved to the Daegu Orions (Korea-KBL) in January 2011.
