The Marquette University men's tennis team announced its award winners for the 2010-11 campaign Thursday night at the program's annual banquet.
Receiving accolades Thursday night were freshmen Dan Mamalat, Logon Collins and Thibault Troude and sophomore Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley.
Mamalat captured Most Valuable Player recognition after leading the team with 23 singles victories in 2010-11. He posted a 16-8 mark in dual matches and is a candidate for the league's top newcomer award. Mamalat saw a majority of his action at No. 2 singles, where he earned a 14-8 mark. He also combined with several partners to contribute a total of 18 doubles victories. Al but one of his doubles appearances came at the No. 2 position.
Gutierrez Crowley and Troude shared the Most Improved Player honor after both players made great strides this season. Gutierrez Crowley rebounded from an injury-plagued freshman campaign to total 15 singles victories, including 14 at the No. 1 position in dual matches. Troude became a fixture in the dual lineup after struggling during the fall portion of the schedule. Of his 12 total singles wins, nine came following the completion of the tournament slate.
Gutierrez Crowley also earned the Coaches Attitude Award, which recognizes the team member with the best work ethic, both on the court and in the classroom.
Collins has already made a name for himself in the classroom and as a result collected the Academic Award.
