MILWAUKEE - Senior defender Kerry McBride has been named to the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List for the 2011 season. McBride is one of 42 student-athletes named to the list and one of five representing the BIG EAST Conference.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. The recipients are selected by head coaches of NCAA Division I programs who are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Voting for the MAC Hermann Trophy is conducted in late November, when a field of 15 semifinalists is reduced to three finalists. Those three will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, where a news conference will be held to announce the winner, followed by a banquet to honor the three finalists.
McBride, the 2010 BIG EAST's Defensive Player of the Year and a NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-America Third Team selection, anchored Marquette's back line as its sweeper last season. She helped lead one of the best defenses in the BIG EAST, which allowed 22 goals overall and just eight in BIG EAST play. McBride helped limit the opposition to just 7.7 shots on goal per game, including just 3.5 shots on goal in BIG EAST play.
She was also named the BIG EAST's co-Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and to Soccer America's Preseason All-Americans list. TopDrawerSoccer.com lists McBride as the No. 63 on its 100 Upperclassmen to Watch list.
Senior goalkeeper Natalie Kulla and forward Rachael Sloan were also selections on TopDrawerSoccer.com's 100 Upperclassmen to Watch list coming in at Nos. 51 and 77, respectively.
