Plouffe Earns Opus Student-Athlete of the Week

Opus MILWAUKEE - Marquette sophomore-to-be Katherine Plouffe played an integral role in the Team Canada's fifth place finish at the Under-19 FIBA Women's World Championship to earn GoMarquette.com Opus Student-Athlete of the Week honors.

The native of Edmonton, Alberta averaged 8.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while connecting on 46.2 percent of her attempts from the floor over the nine-game tournament. The Canadians finished 8-1 overall.

The Golden Eagles' 2011-12 non-conference schedule will be announced in the coming month.

Kelly led all scorers with five goals at the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II U19 Championship while playing with her club team, Mallorca. Kelly scored both goals in a 2-1 win over CASA (Ohio) and in a 2-0 win over Iowa Rush in the preliminary round. She added a goal in a 2-2 draw with Eclipse Select before Mallorca won in penalty kicks, 3-2, in the semifinals to advance to the Region II Championship game. Mallorca fell in the title game, 2-0, to Minnesota's Woodbury Inferno.

July 11David CheckMen's SoccerCheck posted a clean sheet in a 5-0 win for Milwaukee Bavarian SC over Eau Claire Aris FC on Saturday, July 9, as the goalkeeper helped Bavarian clinch its first National Premier Soccer League Midwest Division Championship and earn a berth in the NPSL finals later this month.
July 5Olivia JohnsonTrack & Field/Cross CountryJohnson earned Captial One Academic All-America® First Team regognition on June 23, joining men's runner Peter Bolgert as the first Marquette student-athletes to earn first team honors since 1997. The Milford, Iowa native sports a perfect 4.0 grade point average in Marquette's nationally recognized accounting program.
