MILWAUKEE - Sophomore forward Maegan Kelly and senior defender Kerry McBride were honored for their roles in the No. 12 Marquette University women's soccer team's two wins last week. Kelly was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Week, while McBride was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Kelly earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time of her career after totaling four points in a 2-0-0 week for the Golden Eagles. The sophomore had two goals - one game winner and one game-tying strike. Kelly scored in the 109th minute in a 1-0 victory at then-No. 14/14 Milwaukee on Sept. 7. She also fueled a comeback victory in a 2-1 decision at Indiana on Sept. 11.
The TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week selection marks the second straight week Kelly has been recognized by the website.
Meanwhile, McBride logged nearly 200 minutes in the two games while playing an integral role in MU's shutout of UWM. The senior from Elm Grove, Wis., served in the free kick that led to Kelly's golden goal against the Panthers.
The Golden Eagles, who are ranked No. 13 by TopDrawerSoccer.com, begin their BIG EAST American Division title defense Thursday, Sept. 15 at Valley Fields against Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast by Sports32 on a tape-delay basis.
