The Golden Eagles (8-2-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) will look to get back on the winning track following an uncharacteristic 3-1 loss at West Virginia on Sept. 18. Freshman Mary Lubascored MU's lone goal in the defeat. She has two goals for the season and is one of 11 Golden Eagles to register at least one goal this season.
Despite allowing three goals against the Mountaineers, senior goalkeeper Natalie Kullahas been exceptional in net for the Golden Eagles. Kulla owns four shutouts and a 0.85 goals against average.
The Blue Demons (2-6-1, 0-1-1) make the short trek to Valley Fields following a pair of double overtime contests in their first weekend of BIG EAST play losing to Cincinnati, 1-0, and tying Louisville, 1-1. Amber Paul and Ashleigh Goddard each lead the team with 2 goals and 1 assist, while goalkeeper Claire Hanold owns a 1.55 goals against average.
Thursday's match will mark the 14th time the two teams have played and the first time in BIG EAST regular season play since the 2008 season. Marquette leads the all-time series 10-3, and won the last meeting, 3-0, in the 2010 BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals at Valley Fields.
The defending NCAA Champion Fighting Irish (4-4-1, 1-1-0) enter the weekend 1-1 in BIG EAST play after falling to Louisville, 1-0, and defeating Cincinnati, 4-1. Prior to the loss against the Cardinals, Notre Dame owned a 62-match BIG EAST regular season unbeaten streak dating back to the 2005 season. Marquette was the last team to defeat the Fighting Irish in regular-season BIG EAST play.
Pre-season BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year Melissa Henderson has registered a league-best 10 goals, including two hat tricks on the season.
In goal, Maddie Fox owns a conference-high 0.64 goals against average.
Notre Dame will play at USF Thursday before traveling to Milwaukee to face the Golden Eagles.
Sunday's match will be the eighth meeting between the two schools, with Notre Dame leading the series 6-1. MU's lone win came on Sept. 30, 2005, 4-1, at Valley Fields.
