KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Marquette women's tennis team concluded fall competition on Saturday and Sunday at the WMU Super Challenge on the campus of Western Michigan.
Sophomore Ali Dawson claimed the #8 singles title in the challenge. She defeated Ortiz from Iowa State on Saturday, 6-2, 6-3 before battling against her opponent from DePaul in the finals on Sunday. Dawson earned a 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10) victory in the championship match.
Freshman Erin Gebes finished in third place in the #1 singles draw. On Sunday, she defeated Utting from Penn State, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (5).
Sophomore Ana Pimienta earned a victory in the consolation final on Sunday morning as she defeated her opponent from Bowling Green State, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (3).
Freshman Aleeza Kanner also earned a third place finish defeating her Iowa State opponent, 6-2, 6-0 in the #7 singles draw.
On Saturday in doubles action, the duo of Dawson/Kanner took third place in their draw defeating the tandem from Penn State, 9-7.
Freshman Laia Hernandez Soler and sophomore Vanessa Foltinger teamed up to win third place in their doubles draw. The duo defeated Iowa State doubles, 8-5.
The Golden Eagles have completed the fall portion of their schedule. They will return to action Jan. 11-13, in Bloomington, Ind. for the Adidas IU Invitational.
