CHICAGO - Katherine Plouffescored 16 of her game-high 22 points in the second half as Marquette led much of the way, but No. RV/22 DePaul rallied for a 71-59 victory over the Golden Eagles on Sunday at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
Plouffe tied her career high in points and finished just three rebounds short of her 10th double-double of the season. Arlesia Morse chipped in with 15 points, and Sarina Simmonshad 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds for her 8th career double-double.
Morse hit her first two shots as MU jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but the Golden Eagles scored just one point over the next 6:25 as DePaul took its first lead at 9-8. Gabi Minixpicked up her third foul with 9:12 to play in the first half, but the Golden Eagles weathered the storm to take a 28-22 lead thanks to a 7-0 run.
Morse had 12 points as MU had 10 steals and led 30-27 at the half. The Golden Eagles held DePaul to 11-37 (29.7 percent) shooting in the first 20 minutes.
Plouffe scored nine points in the first 4:20 of the second half as MU built its largest margin at 38-31 before an 8-0 DePaul run gave the Blue Demons the lead back. The Golden Eagles responded by scoring the next six points for a 44-39 advantage, but DePaul put together another 8-0 run on four straight fast-break layups and never trailed again.
Marquette was within four points, 56-52, with 6:45 to play, but back-to-back three-pointers by Deanna Ortiz helped the Blue Demons pull away.
MU lost for the fifth time in the last six games and fell to 13-11 overall and 4-7 in the BIG EAST. The Blue Demons improved to 19-7 and 7-5 in league action.
Marquette will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 14 when it hosts USF at the Al McGuire Center. The 6 p.m. tipoff will air live on CBS Sports Network.
