MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team will continue its six-match homestand this weekend against Connecticut and West Virginia at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. MU will face UConn on Friday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m., before taking on the Mountaineers on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Marquette (4-1) swept Milwaukee, 7-0,on Feb. 8 to capture its 22nd consecutive victory over its cross-town foe. In singles play, senior Gillian Hush is a perfect 6-0 in dual matches and has paired up with classmate Olga Fischer to post an unblemished 4-0 mark in doubles play. As a team, Marquette has been dominant in doubles action this season, posting a combined 11-4 mark in five matches.
Marquette is 3-1 at the friendly confines of the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
Connecticut (0-2) is in the midst of a six-match road trip to open its dual campaign. Thus far, UConn has yet to earn a point through its two dual matches, falling to Army and Stony Brook, 7-0. Alexa Gregory is the lone senior on the Huskies roster and is expected see most of the action at the No. 1 spot in singles and doubles.
West Virginia (1-5) claimed its first victory of the dual season on Feb. 11, when it topped George Washington, 4-3, in Morgantown, W. Va. The Mountaineers have looked to Emily Mathis and Veronica Cardenas at the No. 1 and 3 singles spots, respectively, for points this season. Combined, the pair has picked up five points in singles action compared to just two by the rest of the team.
West Virginia and Connecticut will play each other on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
