MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University track and field program has announced the addition of 21 student-athletes for the 2012-13 school year, head coach Bert Rogers announced Monday.

"I am very excited about this year's class," Rogers said. "It is loaded with people that should make an immediate impact on BIG EAST competition. This group is definitely one of the most talented and well-rounded recruiting classes we have had in the last several years. My staff and I are looking forward to working with them, and helping them develop to the outstanding potential that they have."

The class includes nine student-athletes from Wisconsin and four from Illinois, in addition to runners from Florida, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, Texas and Washington. Nine of the 21 will compete in the distance events and on the cross country team, while six will focus on the sprinting events, along with five jumpers and one thrower.

Quotes on the newcomers (click name for full biography):

Sarah Connolly - Long Sprints - Wausau, Wis. - Newman Catholic

"Sarah had a fine career as a three-sport athlete at Newman Catholic and is a terrific student. I think her being able to focus on just track at MU will allow her to exploit her potential. She has a bright future at Marquette." - Head Coach Bert Rogers

Nicole Ethier
- Long Sprints - Woodbury, Minn. - East Ridge

"Nicole made the move up in events and started running a few 800s as a senior. She really showed a talent for it and will make a fine addition to our 400-800 group. She has a good range and can run well in the 800, 400 and 200. Being able to train year round for her events should really help her make some big improvements." - Rogers

Kellie Greenwood
- Distance - Two Rivers, Wis. - Two Rivers

"Kellie comes to us from Two Rivers High School where we've had two very successful former runners in Amy Erickson and Brianna Dahm. Amy has been Kellie's coach for the last four years and did a great job of coaching Kellie to a second-place finish in the 3,200 at the 2012 WIAA Division 2 State Championships. Kellie will be a valuable addition to our program as she competes in multiple events on the track." - Assistant Track and Field Coach/Head Cross Country Coach Mike Nelson

Molly Hanson - Distance - Dodgeville, Wis. - Dodgeville

"Molly has a family connection to MU track & field as her sister is former MU All-American and school record holder, Michaela Courtney. Like Michaela, Molly had a very successful high school career, especially during her senior season. She was the WIAA Division 2 champion in cross country as well as the 1,600. Molly ended her high school career as one of the fastest prep girls all-time in the state of Wisconsin. Her 800 time of 2:11.48 ranks seventh and her 1,600 time of 4:54.81 ranks her 16th all-time." - Nelson

Tatyana Pashibin
- High Jump - Minneapolis, Minn. - Southwest

"`Tate' is likely one of the most decorated jumpers to join Marquette's women's track and field team. Her talent level is very high and she still has a lot of room for development, especially in the horizontal jumps. Her PR of 5'8" in the high jump puts her very close to other jumpers at the national level as well. She is a proven big meet performer and I have no doubt that she will develop into a strong BIG EAST contender." - Assistant Track and Field Coach Nick Davis

Sarah Poirier - Distance - Wausau, Wis. - Wausau West

"Sarah also has a family connection to MU. Both of Sarah's parents went to MU and her father also attended Marquette Law. Sarah was a state medalist at the WIAA Division 1 Cross Country Championships and she also led her 4x800 team to a third-place finish at the state track and field championships. I believe Sarah will make immediate contributions in the longer events here at MU. She's not afraid to tackle the 5k and 10k on the track. Not only is Sarah an outstanding athlete, she was also valedictorian of her senior class." - Nelson

Mikayla Preissner - Long Sprints
- Kiel, Wis. - Kiel

"Mikayla really came on strong as a senior and ran a PR race at the state meet. I really think she is someone who can really develop in being able train throughout the school year focusing on track." - Rogers

Laura Schweikert
- Long Sprints - Palatine, Ill. - Palatine

"Laura will be making the move from being a 200-400 runner in high school to a 400-800 runner at Marquette. She has very solid speed in the 400, where she qualified for the state meet three times in the event. Combine that with her ability to train for distance, she was a strong runner on her high school cross country team, I foresee a smooth transition to the 800 and success ahead." - Rogers

Lindsay Smoljan
- Pole Vault - Mokena, Ill. - Providence Catholic

"We are excited about adding Lindsay to our vertical jumps crew. Lindsay comes in with a PR of 10'6" in the vault and shows great potential for development in the event. We've had a lot of success developing vaulters here at MU and with Lindsay's speed, she'll no doubt improve greatly over the next few years." - Davis

Kayla Spencer
- Distance - Elmhurst, Ill. - York

"Kayla comes from an outstanding high school program. York High School consistently produces some of the best high school runners in not only Illinois, but in the Midwest. With her experience and training background, she is poised to have a great career at Marquette. Kayla placed 20th at the competitive Illinois state high school cross country championships and she also led her 4x800 team to a podium finish at the state track and field championships." - Nelson

Theron Baumann - Throws - Monona, Wis. - Monona Grove

"Theron is a very successful thrower in both shot put and discus. He has the size and power to make a swift transition to college throwing and will look to contribute at the BIG EAST Championships this coming year. Along with the shot and discus, I think Theron will be able to be a successful hammer and weight thrower down the road. I really enjoyed recruiting Theron and look forward to him joining our team." - Associate Head Track and Field Coach Mike Koenning

Patrick Campbell
- Distance - La Crosse, Wis. - Aquinas

"Patrick comes to us from a very successful high school program, La Crosse Aquinas. He has had multiple podium finishes at the state track meet along with a team state championship. He is a successful middle distance runner and he'll be able to help us in several events within the middle-distance oriented BIG EAST Conference. " - Nelson

Michael Corr
-Distance - Seattle, Wash. - Seattle Prep

"Michael experienced an injury at the beginning of his senior track season, but that did not stop him from having a successful senior campaign. He and his high school coach decided to focus on speed and Michael was able to qualify for the Washington state championships in the 400 and 4x400. With increased training and experience, I think Michael will be an asset for our program in the future." - Nelson

Cody Haberkorn
- Distance - Oak Lawn, Ill. - Marist

"Cody was able to qualify for the Illinois State Championship in the 3,200 after running 9:21 at the sectional meet. He took a significant chunk of time off his 3,200 PR from the beginning of the season to the end. He is known for his work ethic and I look forward to him bringing a positive enthusiasm to our squad." - Nelson

William Hennessy
- Distance - Algonquin, Ill. - Jacobs

"William had a very successful senior track season. He was consistently under 1:55 for the 800 and under 4:20 for the 1,600. He led his team to a podium spot in the 4x800 relay at the Illinois State Track and Field Championships. William will be a valuable asset for our team in the middle distance events." - Nelson

John Kaplan
- Pole Vault - Dallas, Texas - Jesuit College Prep

"We are very excited to add John to our men's pole vault crew this year, coming all the way from Dallas, Texas. John is a very hard-working individual who made a foot improvement from his junior to senior years. Currently, his PR of 15'6" would rank him third in Marquette history outdoors. With continued technique and speed development, I am excited to see John become a 16-plus foot vaulter in the very near future." - Davis

Max Kilpin
- High Jump - East Troy, Wis. - Wauwatosa East

"Max is a Milwaukee boy and I've had my eye on him for a few years. Max has a wealth of raw talent and will develop into one of the best high jumpers that Marquette has seen in its history. At 6'6", Max is tall with a lot of jumping ability, which he has developed over time as one of the premier volleyball players in Wisconsin. With some track-specific training and technique work under his belt, he will prove to be a strong competitor at both the BIG EAST and national levels." - Davis

Vinny Martello
- Pole Vault - Canton, Ohio - Jackson

"Vinny is another dedicated vaulter who has developed nicely over his junior and senior years. Vinny has great speed and will improve dramatically with more strength and technique work. Vinny has proven to be a strong championship meet performer, placing at the Ohio state meet in his junior and senior years. He will add depth to our growing vertical jumps crew and I'm looking forward to watching he and John Kaplan push each other over the next few years." - Davis

Brendan Porter
- Sprints - Miramar, Fla. - American Heritage

"Brendan, likely, has the fasted 400 time coming out of high school as any recruit we have had here, and certainly the fastest during my tenure. He definitely has the tools to be one of the best 400 runners to attend Marquette and should make an immediate impact on the BIG EAST. Unfortunately a quad injury early in his high school season wiped out his senior year, but he is now healed and hard at work getting ready for the season. I am excited to start working with him this fall." - Rogers

Anton Rice
- Sprints - Omaha, Neb. - Daniel J. Gross Catholic

"Anton will focus on the 800 here at Marquette and train with Kyle Winter and our 400-800 group. He also has great range. In addition to winning the Nebraska state meet in the 800 and finishing fourth in the 400, he anchored his 4x100 relay to a third-place finish at the state meet. He is a tall guy and I think has the tools to be very competitive in the BIG EAST." - Rogers

Andres Tineo-Paz
- Distance - Racine, Wis. - The Prairie School

"Andres wrapped up his high school career with victories in the Division 3 1,600 and 3,200 at the Wisconsin State High School Track and Field Championships. He has showed that he knows how to win. He won both his state championships with blistering finishes and he'll need that leg speed to compete in the ultra-competitive BIG EAST Conference. " - Nelson
