2012 SEASON PREVIEW
? Defending BIG EAST Conference Blue Division champion Marquette has its sights set its fourth-straight postseason bid in 2012 after earning BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship berths in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
? Louis Bennett is back for his seventh season as head coach of the Golden Eagles. He returns eight starting players for the third consecutive season, although MU will be a bit younger than in years past; Marquette's roster features 11 freshmen, including 10 newcomers, and just eight upperclassmen.
? Marquette returns unanimous BIG EAST All-Rookie team selection C. Nortey. The Ghanaian striker, who also earned MU's Newcomer of the Year and Golden Boot awards in 2011, led the squad with nine goals and 20 points last season.
? Englishman Ryan Robb heads into his senior season as a four-year starter in Marquette's midfield. In addition, the Golden Eagles' backline is bolstered by the return of left-footed junior captain Eric Pothast and 6-foot-7 central defender Axel Sjoberg, who redshirted last season after suffering a broken foot in the team's second game of 2011.
? Six NCAA postseason tournament participants appear on Marquette's 2012 preseason and regular schedule, including Loyola Chicago, Xavier (Atlantic 10 tournament champion), Western Illinois (Summit League champion) and Northern Illinois, in addition to BIG EAST foes Connecticut (NCAA quarterfinalist) and Providence College.
? Marquette renews a long-standing rivalry with Green Bay in 2012. The two teams have met on 37 occasions previously, but not since the 2007 season.
