MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's cross country team is ranked No. 8 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Great Lakes Region preseason poll.

Wisconsin received the top-spot in the region, while fellow conference members Notre Dame and Cincinnati are tabbed No. 4 and No. 11, respectively.

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region.

Thirteen letter winners on the men's side return this fall, including seniors Connor Callahan, A.J. Gedwill, Jack Hackett and Patrick Maag, and junior Jack Senefeld, all of whom helped MU to an eighth place finish at the 2011 NCAA Great Lakes Regional. It was the program's best finish since 2007.

Both MU men's and women's cross country teams will open the season on Friday, Sept. 7 at the NIU Huskie Open in DeKalb, Ill.
