MILWAUKEE--For the third week in-a-row a trio of Marquette women's soccer players has been awarded BIG EAST weekly honors. Senior Maegan Kelly has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman Ashley Handwork earns Rookie of the Week honors. Senior Emily Jacobson was named to the league's weekly honor roll.
Kelly scored two goals in Marquette's 6-0 victory over Providence on Sunday, including converting a penalty kick in the 49th minute. She has a team-high eight goals and seven assists this season.
Handwork played a role in two of the Golden Eagles' six goals as she scored in the 41st minute and then dished out as assist on Kelly's second goal.
Jacobson earns a weekly honor for the third consecutive week as she anchored MU's backline that did not allow a shot in goal in 90 minutes played. The Golden Eagles held the Friars to just five total shots.
Marquette (15-3-0, 8-0-0) clinched the BIG EAST regular season title on Sunday for the fifth consecutive year and recorded its ninth shutout. The Golden Eagles will play its final regular season game on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they host Butler at 5:30 p.m. on Senior Day. MU is the host site for the 2013 BIG EAST Championship played at Valley Fields on Nov. 8 and 10.
