MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University women's basketball team (4-0) defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas, 84-72, Thursday evening at the Al McGuire Center. MU's 4-0 start marks the first time the program has been perfect through its first four contests since 2010-11.

Senior Katherine Plouffe notched her fourth double-double in as many contests, contributing 21 points and 13 boards. Senior Katie Young also contributed her third double-double of the season notching a career high in points with 28 along with 13 rebounds and 6 assists. The Kenosha native was 15-of-17 from the charity stripe.

At the intermission, MU held a 30-28 advantage. Young had a monster-first half, netting 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.

MU was in control throughout most of the second half, holding a lead as large as 13 at one point. The Chippewas (1-2) stormed back late in the second stanza, cutting the MU lead to as low as four points. Junior Christina Bigica then nailed a pivotal 3-point basket at the 4:28 mark to extend MU's lead back to seven, and the Golden Eagles never looked back. Bigica's high-energy play helped Marquette remain ahead late in the second; the Romania native scored nine points during a two minute stretch late in the second frame.

Bigica scored a career-best 13 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field. Classmate Apiew Ojulu also contributed nine points and seven rebounds.

The Golden Eagles struggled to hold on to the ball early on against Central Michigan's zone defense, turning the ball over eight times in the game's first eight minutes. Marquette made the necessary adjustments the rest of the way, cracking the CMU zone with 84 total points on the night.

Marquette has now scored at least 80 points in all four of its contests in 2013-14.

The Chippewas were led by junior Crystal Bradford who netted 22 points on 9-of-30 shooting from the field.

Marquette returns to action Sunday at 3 p.m. Central time, when it welcomes the No.2 Duke Blue Devils (3-0) to the Al McGuire Center.
