LAS VEGAS, Nev.--Junior Arlesia Morse recorded 24 points and led a trio of Golden Eagles in double figures as the Marquette women's basketball team (5-1) toppled Tennessee Tech (2-3), 84-64, in the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout at South Point Arena.
Along with Morse, seniors Katherine Plouffe and Katie Young also tallied double digits with 21 and 12, respectively. Junior Chelsie Butler and sophomore Brooklyn Pumroy each added nine points. Young narrowly missed her fifth double double this season with nine boards.
The Golden Eagles shot 29-for-64 (45.3 percent) from the field, including a season-high 10 from beyond the arc. MU also owned a 51-28 rebounding advantage and received 40 points from its bench.
Diamond Henderson led Tennessee Tech with 22 points, while T'Keyah Williams recorded 13.
The Golden Eagles got off to a strong start in the first half with a 15-6 lead at the 14:10 mark in the first half. MU held TTU to a four minute scoreless drought from 6:11 to 2:39 and went on an 11-0 run in that stretch. Marquette shot 50 percent (28-for-36) from the field, including six from beyond-the-arc.
MU's largest lead in the game came at the 15:01 mark after a trey from Morse put the Golden Eagles in front, 59-33. TTU cut the lead to 16 points, 65-49, with 8:53 left in the game, but Marquette responded and the score did not get closer.
MU will return to the floor on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 4:30 p.m. CT to face Utah in the final game of the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout. It will put Plouffe against her twin sister Michelle for the first time in their collegiate careers.
