PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Led by Katherine Plouffe's 20 points, the Marquette women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid with an 81-70 victory at Providence on Tuesday night.
Plouffe recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 boards. Sophomore Arlesia Morse tallied 19 points, 17 in the second half, while sophomores Lauren Tibbs and Chelsie Butler posted 14 and 11 points, respectively. It was the first time since Jan. 2 that four players notched double digits.
The Friars had three players in double figures and were led by Tori Rule with a game-high 25 points.
Marquette is now 13-14 overall and 5-9 in BIG EAST play, while Providence falls to 7-20 and 2-12 in league action.
The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent (29-58) from the field and dominated the glass by a 49-21 margin.
Providence cut the lead to eight points, 72-64 with just 3:41 remaining, but MU converted seven free-throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Marquette played a stellar first half, shooting 58.1 percent (18-31) from the field. Tibbs was a perfect 6-6 for 12 points, while Plouffe and Butler each had 10 points heading into the break. The Golden Eagles were dominating the glass with a 27-11 advantage over the Friars.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Georgetown on Saturday, March 2 for a 3 p.m. CT tip-off against the Hoyas.
