MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams will continue their outdoor schedule this weekend when the squads head to Macomb, Ill., on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13 to participate in the 24th Annual Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational. Competition will take place on Hanson Field, located on the campus of Western Illinois University.

Action at the Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational will get underway on Friday with the discus throw at 2 p.m., followed immediately by the javelin, high jump and long jump events. Relays and the long-distance running events will cap the first day of competition, beginning with the sprint medley relay at 5 p.m. Saturday's field and running events will begin simultaneously at 11 a.m. with the pole vault and the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Live results of Friday's and Saturday's action will be available on

This weekend's invitational is named in honor of the late Lee Quency Calhoun, a Western Illinois alumnus and member of the 1956 and 1960 U.S. Olympic Track and Field teams. Calhoun, a member of the National Track & Field Hall of Fame, won the gold medal in the 110-meter hurtles at the 1956 and 1960 Olympic games.

Spencer Agnew, Glenn Lawrence, Connor Stengel and Kyle Winter will represent the Marquette men in the sprint medley relay, while Chanel Franklin, Molly Hanson, Kate Hein and Gretchen Homan will run the event on the women's side. The Golden Eagles swept the event last season with the men recording a time of 3:30.30, while the women notched a time of 4:10.93

In addition to running the 200-meter leg of the sprint medley relay for the Marquette women, Franklin will also participate in the 100- and 200-meter sprints. Last weekend in a dual meet against Milwaukee, she claimed the top spot in the 100-meter sprint with a time of 12.07 seconds.

For the first time this season Marquette will run in the steeplechase. Sarah Ball and Melissa Budelier will take to the starting line for MU on the women's side, while the men will be represented by A.J. Gedwill, Zack Grese and William Hennessy. Both Budelier and Gedwill ran in the event last year at the Calhoun Invitational, finishing second and third overall in their respective fields.

The Golden Eagles will look for points in the field events from Samantha Kennedy (javelin), Lindsay Smoljan (pole vault) and Kirsten Walker (shot put). David Carbajal, who is also set to compete in the shot put, will join William Koeck in the discus and hammer throw. Freshman jumper Brett Tobin will participate in the long and triple jumps.

Saturday's events center around the 110-meter hurdles, the event in which Calhoun wont Olympic gold medals. Junior Marcell KirkmanBey will be the lone member from Marquette to participate in the event. The Lindenhurst, Ill., native holds a personal-best 110-hurdle mark of 15.18 seconds.
