MILWAUKEE - Head coach Meredith Black has announced the selection of Jenaye Coleman, Hayley Baas, Elizabeth Goslee and Kayce Haverstick as 2014 team captains for the Marquette University women's lacrosse program.
"I am very excited about our captains for the 2014 season," Black said. "All four of these ladies have proven that they know what it takes to compete at the top Division I level, but also how to lead a team. Although they are young, they all have great leadership ability and I am very confident in what they bring to our team."
Coleman, a redshirt sophomore, is the lone returning captain from last season and started 11 games in 2013 on defense. The Apple Valley, Minn., native picked up 11 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers in her first season of action for the Golden Eagles.
Baas, a sophomore from Cincinnati, was Marquette's second-leading goal scorer in 2013 with 21 tallies and tied for the team lead with 28 draw controls. The midfielder scored the game-winning goal in double overtime at Coastal Carolina on Feb. 17 as MU picked up its first win in program history.
Goslee was a mainstay for the Golden Eagles' defense in 2013, starting all 17 games during her rookie season and placing second on the team with 33 ground balls. She scored her lone goal against Georgetown on April 12 and picked up a season-high five ground balls in MU's first win at CCU.
Haverstick also started 17 games on defense as a freshman and finished second on the squad with 19 caused turnovers and notched 20 ground balls.
Coleman, Emily Donovan and Lisa Beltramello were MU's 2013 captains during its inaugural season.
The Golden Eagles begin the 2014 season on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Johns Hopkins and will begin their first season of BIG EAST Conference action on Friday, March 28 against Cincinnati at Valley Fields.
