BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK - Freshman attack Amanda Bochniak of the Marquette University women's lacrosse team was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Bochniak scored her first collegiate goal just 1:37 into Saturday's game at Johns Hopkins in her native Maryland to give MU a 1-0 advantage. The Fallston, Md., native attended Maryvale Prep in Brooklandville, Md., and saw action against her former high school teammate, JHU freshman goalie Caroline Federico.

"It was great to see Amanda score on her first collegiate shot in her hometown," Marquette head coach Meredith Black said. "We expect her to do great things for this program and this is only the beginning. Her classmate, Julianna Shearer, also scored in her first NCAA game and that pair adds a different dimension on our attack."

The weekly honor is the first for Marquette, a 2014 BIG EAST newcomer in its second NCAA Division I campaign.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at No. 4 Northwestern.
