MILWAUKEE - After splitting their first two matches of the season, the Marquette University women's tennis team (1-1) is set to face Iowa State at home (Feb. 7) and Western Michigan on the road (Feb. 9) this weekend.
The Golden Eagles will square off against the Cyclones on Friday at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium at 4 p.m. Central time before traveling to Kalamazoo, Mich. to face off against the Broncos on Sunday at 9 a.m. CT.
Last time out, the Blue and Gold fell to in-state rival University of Wisconsin 5-2 at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium (Feb. 1). The lone points from MU came from sophomore Erin Gebes and senior Rocio Diaz. Gebes, the Denver, Colo. native battled Lauren Burich at the No. 2 slot, winning in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Diaz handled UW's Becca Bailey at the No. 6 slot 6-4, 6-1.
Nearly a year ago last season, Marquette defeated both ISU and WMU, 4-3 and 5-2 respectively. MU is 3-1 in the last four seasons against Iowa State, while only 2-2 against Western Michigan.
Concluding dual play against the Broncos, the Golden Eagles will begin at three-match home stand squaring off against Iowa and Western Illinois on Feb. 15. First serve is slated to begin at 9 a.m. CT. at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
