Juniors Nick Dykema, Mackenzie Stearns, Kristiyan Trukov and senior Daniel Fernandez of the Marquette University men's tennis team will head to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the ITA All-American Championships this weekend.
Pre-qualifying matches are slated to begin on Saturday, Oct. 3, with qualifying matches starting on Oct. 5 and main draw contests getting underway on Oct. 8. The singles and doubles finals are scheduled for Oct. 12. This marks the 11th straight year that the University of Tulsa will serve as the official tournament host, and most of the action during the two-week event will take place on the courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
"We want to see improvement and feel like these guys are moving forward," assistant coach Jud Shaufler said. "This is a great fall tournament and our players should be very excited for the opportunity.
"We pride ourselves on doing a good job of conditioning and that will be put to the test as our players will have to play multiple matches at a high level each day," Shaufler added. "I think we will find out some important information about our guys as we approach the regionals in a few weeks."
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive an automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 12-15, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
This upcoming weekend will mark the third consecutive weekend of tournaments for the Blue & Gold, coming off of this past weekend at the Purdue Fall Invitational. MU opened the season at the 40th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic Sept. 18-20.
