NEW YORK - Marquette University women's volleyball redshirt freshman Taylor Louis has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season and junior Sara Blasier was selected to the weekly honor roll after the Golden Eagles turned in a 2-0 week in conference action.
Louis led MU in wins over Seton Hall and Villanova with 5.81 points, 5.25 kills and 2.62 digs per set to go along with a .252 hitting percentage. The Skokie, Ill. native led the league for the weekend in kills and points. Her 24.5 points in a 3-1 win over Seton Hall ranks fourth in league games in a four-set match and the 23 kills also tied for third-best in a league game played to four sets. Louis connected on 19 kills and nine digs for a near double-double against Villanova in a 3-1 win that ended Villanova's eight-game win streak. Louis' double-double with 23 kills, 12 digs against the Pirates was her seventh of the season.
Blasier tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 37 assists and a career-best 24 digs in the Golden Eagles' victory over Villanova. The Hartford, Wis. Native averaged 10.38 assists and 4.12 digs per set against Seton Hall and Villanova. Her 46 assists handed out in a 3-1 win over Seton Hall was the fifth-best performance in BIG EAST play in four sets. The 24 digs against the Wildcats ties for third.
Marquette has won four in-a-row and is 8-3 overall in league play, sitting in third place in the standings. The Golden Eagles conclude a five-match homestand tonight hosting crosstown foe Milwaukee at 7 p.m. Central time. The match will air live on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Matt Menzl and Michelle Griffin-Wenzel calling the action.
