Golden Eagles Fall Short to No. 21 ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Marquette University women's basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter again, but could not overtake No. 21 Arizona State, as the Golden Eagles fell, 90-80, on Saturday evening at Wells Fargo Arena.

Allazia Blockton led four players in double figures, tying a career-high with 22 points, while recording her fourth double-double of the year in adding 10 rebounds. Erika Davenport posted her second double-double of the season with a career-best 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Natisha Hiedeman and McKayla Yentz totaled 12 and 11 points, respectively.

It was the third-straight game that had four Marquette players reach double figures.

Hiedeman was credited with four steals, which helped spark the Golden Eagles' run in the third and fourth quarters, while the team took three straight possessions away from ASU in the third quarter.

The Golden Eagles shot 50.8 percent (32-63) from the floor in the game and hit four three-point baskets, all in the second half.

MU trailed 71-55 at the end of the third quarter, but opened the final frame with a 7-1 run in the first four minutes. Davenport connected on a layup with just 1:10 left in the game, which cut the Sun Devils' lead to just eight points, 83-75, and came right back with another layup with just 47 seconds remaining. Davenport poured in 10 points in the fourth quarter alone.

Marquette closed out the first half trailing the Sun Devils, 48-32 and was shooting 12-28 (42.9 percent) from the field.

The Golden Eagles have one game remaining before a holiday break. The squad will travel across town to face local foe, Milwaukee on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. CT.
