NEW YORK - A pair of Marquette University women's lacrosse attackers were named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll thanks to solid performances byjunior Claire Costanza and freshman Riley Hill, the league office announced Tuesday, March 17.
Costanza totaled 11 points on three goals and eight assists, while Hill registered six points on four goals and two assists as the Golden Eagles defeated St. Mary's College (Calif.) 15-4,and fellto USC, 11-4, to wrap their spring trip in California last week.
Costanza, who extended her points streak to 12 games dating back to the last five contests of the 2014 campaign, turned in the best game of her Marquette career in the dominating win over SMC. The Webster, New York native finished witha career-high 10 points, including seven assists, in leading MU past the Gaels.
The junior scored seven points in the first half alone with a streak of five-straight goals she contributed to by scoring or assisting. Constanza currently leads MU with 23 points (10g, 13a) on the season, while ranking first in the BIG EAST in total assists and assists per game (1.86).
Hill picks up her second weekly award of the season after earning BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors (Feb. 24) and has scored at least a point in four of her last five games. The best effort of her young career came against SMC with a hat trick to go along with two assists in a five-point effort. She and Constanza teamed up four times for goals in the win.
Hill ranks third on the team behind Costanza and Taylor Smith with nine points on the year, including seven goals and two assists.
Marquette returns home to Valley Fields this weekend after playing its previous four games on the road. The Golden Eagles will host Michigan Friday, March 20, at 5 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. match-up against Detroit Sunday, March 22.
