MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University women's tennis team will finish off a four-match road swing Tuesday and Thursday as the Golden Eagles take on No. 33 Arizona State and Grand Canyon.
MU will play the Sun Devils on Tuesday, March 10 at 2:30 p.m. Central time in Tempe, Arizona and then head to Phoenix for a March 12 match-up against Antelopes at noon.
Marquette (8-3) looks to come back after falling 7-0 at Minnesota last time on the court. The doubles tandem of Erin Gebes and Ana Pimienta continue to hold the best duo record on the squad, with an 8-2 record in the No. 1 spot. Pimienta, along with Freshman Paula Tormos Sanchez boast the most wins in singles action, with both currently holding a 7-3 title. Pimienta's latest singles match went into three rounds at the No. 1 spot, but the senior fell 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) to her Gopher counterpart.
No. 33 Arizona State (5-2) looks to continue its three-match winning streak heading into the competition. In the Sun Devils last three matches, the squad has only lost one set. ASU will face No. 51 St. Mary's on Saturday and Pennsylvania on Monday before hosting the Golden Eagles. No. 52 Desirae Krawczyk continues to surge ahead after winning her latest singles match 6-4, 7-7 and notching a 6-4 on the doubles side with partner Stephanie Vlad.
Grand Canyon (3-6) readies for Marquette following a 7-0 sweep of Valparaiso, snapping the Antelope's three-match losing skid. In the squad's last three matches, Priscilla Annoual holds the top record in singles action, displaying 5-3 stat at the No. 1 spot. The doubles team of Lana Macukat and Lana Rinaldi also has a 5-3 record with their most recent victory resulting in a 8-2 win over a Valpo duo at the No. 3 doubles.
Following the matches, Marquette return home for a match-up against Illinois State on Tuesday, March 17 at 1 p.m. CT at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
