MILWAUKEE - Marquette University women's track and field has announced the addition of 14 student-athletes, including three that will also compete on the women's cross country team, for the 2015-16 academic year.
"This is a very strong recruiting class," head coach Bert Rogers said. "We try to field a full track & field team each year, and last year we had a smaller team with a few holes in some event areas. I really feel that this class will fill those gaps and really improve our overall depth."
This year's class features four throwers, three distance runners, two sprinters, two multi-event athletes, as well as a jumper, pole vaulter and hurdler. Five of the 14 newcomers hail from Wisconsin, while six others come from Illinois, and the remaining three come to Milwaukee by way of Iowa, Maryland and Minnesota.
All will be eligible immediately and join a squad that turned in its highest-ever finishes at both the BIG EAST Conference indoor and outdoor championship meets, claiming identical runner-up honors. A total of 30 female individuals earned All-BIG EAST status with three earning individual titles at the outdoor championship meet back in May.
