NEW YORK - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams have swept the BIG EAST Conference Athletes of the Week awards after junior Brittney Feivor and sophomore Alec Miller turned in superb efforts at the National Catholic Championships this past week, the league office announced Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Feivor collects her first-ever BIG EAST weekly award after a sixth-place finish at the meet hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 18. The Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin native kept up with the leaders and even led a portion of the 5K race that featured over 270 runners before crossing the finish line in a time of 17:44.3.
At the Badger Classic on Sept. 4, Feivor led a good portion of the race before taking third overall in a solid season-opening effort.
Miller also picked up his first-career BIG EAST weekly accolade after putting together his second-straight impressive performance as well. He took 12th place among nearly 300 runners in an 8K course where he clocked in at 25:29.5, good for a 5:05 pace for nearly 5 miles.
The West Bend, Wisconsin native placed second overall in the team's season opener at the Badger Classic and is off to a tremendous start to the 2015 campaign.
Feivor and Miller will lead the Golden Eagles at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota this Saturday, Sept. 26. The men will start shortly after noon Central time, while the women will compete around 1 p.m.
