Full list of award winners
NEW ORLEANS - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as scholar team award winners, while sophomore Cassy Goodrich was an All-Academic individual honoree for the second-straight year.
The Marquette women's team joins seven other BIG EAST programs as having met the standard cumulative team grade point average of 3.00 after registering a 3.15 team GPA during the 2015-16 academic year. It was the ninth season in a row and 10th time in the last 11 years that the women's team has earned such an honor by the USTFCCCA.
Meanwhile, the men's side wasn't far behind, compiling a 3.07 team GPA and joining five other BIG EAST programs on the list. In total, 122 men's teams and 220 women's teams were honored.
Individually, Goodrich claims this prestigious honor for the second time in her career after posting an impressive 3.93 GPA this past year.
Individual selection specifications are designed to combine both academics and athletics. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top-96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Last year, Brittney Feivor, Kellie Greenwood, Kathryn Koeck and Goodrich earned individual USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades.
