Joe Amplo Named to Sachem Athletic Hall of Fame

MILWAUKEE-The Sachem Alumni Association named Marquette University head men's lacrosse coach Joe Amplo to the Sachem High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Amplo was recognized for his performances in lacrosse and football during his time in the Sachem Central School District. He will be part of the third induction class, after previous inductions took place in 2003 and 2016.

Following his high school career, Amplo joined Hofstra's lacrosse team as a walk-on, playing for the Pride from 1995-99. In his senior season, he earned recognition as a first team All-America East selection at defenseman.

After his playing career, Amplo worked as an assistant coach for 11 years (10 at Hofstra, one at Pennsylvania) before becoming Marquette's first head coach in 2012. In his time at Marquette, Amplo has led the Golden Eagles to two BIG EAST titles and a pair of NCAA tournament appearances and earned the 2014 BIG EAST Coach of the Year award.

He is also a member of the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Committee and an assistant coach for the US Lacrosse Men's National Team.

The induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 7 at Sachem High School North.
