KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Sophomore Oliver Farrell posted a 7-under-par day that included a career-low 66 (6-under-par) in the final round to claim medalist honors and lead Marquette to a four-stroke victory over Wisconsin in the Charleston Shootout at Kiawah Island's Osprey Point G.C. on Saturday.
In the three-team, one-day, 36-hole event that included the Golden Eagles (301-287--588), Badgers (303-289--592) and host Charleston Southern (307-295-602), Marquette shot a 1-under-par final round on the par-72 Osprey Point layout.
Farrell was joined in red figures in the final round by freshman Matthew Bachmann (78-70--148), whose 2-under-par 70 was his fifth par or better round of the season.
The win for Farrell (71-66--137) was by six strokes over Wisconsin's Nick Robinson (143). Farrell was the only man in the field to finish under par for the day - he entered the weekend event averaging 71.8 strokes per round this season.
Marquette resumes its spring portion of the schedule at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate, hosted by Michigan, in Scottsdale, Arizona March 4-5.
