JACKSONVILLE, Florida - Fourteen different players scored for the No. rv/20 Marquette University men's lacrosse team at Jacksonville as the Golden Eagles opened the 2017 season with a 17-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Marquette (1-0) notched program records for both goals scored and fewest goals allowed in the victory. Senior attackman Ryan McNamara did not score, but posted a game-high three assists, while senior Joe Dunn, sophomore John Wagner and freshman Dylan Dobrosky each scored a pair of goals. Dobrosky's first of the day was a behind-the-back effort set up by fellow freshman Keenan Moffitt.

"It was just a great team win," Marquette head coach Joe Amplo said. "I thought all of our guys, top to bottom did their job and made the little plays that looked like big plays out there. I am really proud of the team effort."

MU led 11-0 after three quarters to mark the first time it had held an opponent scoreless through three quarters. It went on to post a game-high six goals in the fourth as Marquette's freshmen got extended time.

Every healthy Golden Eagle saw action in the win and a total of seven players scored their first collegiate goals. MU held a 40-19 edge in shots and a 35-16 advantage in ground balls, while junior goalie Cole Blazer did not allow a goal in 45 minutes and made seven saves.

"Cole Blazer did a great job and I thought Zachary Melillo had a great first half and got us on a roll a little bit," Amplo said. "You look at the goal sheet and I think there were 14 different scorers and that speaks to the team concept we are trying to preach here."

The Golden Eagles improve to 3-2 all-time in season openers and 2-2 in road openers while also evening up the series record at 2-2 against Jacksonville.

McNamara posted a game-high four goals in MU's last matchup with the Dolphins, a game that the Golden Eagles won 12-10 on March 6, 2015 to move to 6-0. McNamara pulled Marquette out of an 8-8 tie after three quarters with three fourth quarter goals.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Richmond in a noon Central time face-off.
