Official USTFCCCA Release
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams were honored dual recognition for the seventh year-in-a-row as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) announced the Division I Cross Country Team Academic Awards for the 2016 season.
The award recognized 242 women's teams and 189 men's teams that registered a cumulative team grade-point average of at least a 3.0.
The Marquette women's team registered a GPA of 3.44, while the men's team recorded a 3.36 GPA.
Tenth-year head coach Mike Nelson has seen his squads earn the award in tandem in eight of the last nine season, including seven consecutive years dating back to 2009.
The Oregon women and the Northern Arizona men were honored as the Division I Scholar Teams of the Year after being crowned national champions in November. To achieve the highest honor, each team had to be the top finishing team for their gender and have accumulated a GPA of at least 3.0 during the 2016 season.
