As winners of the 2017 BIG EAST Tournament, the Marquette University women's basketball earns the league's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship and will face Quinnipiac in the first round in Coral Gables, Florida on Saturday, March 18.

The Golden Eagles (25-7) have earned their highest-ever seed, claiming the No. 5 seed in the Stockton Region and taking on the No. 12 seed Quinnipiac (27-6) in Coral Gables, Florida on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Central time.

Marquette's highest seed previously was as the No. 6 seed in 2007 when it defeated Louisiana-Lafayette, 87-58, in the first round before falling, 78-47, to No. 3 Oklahoma.

Marquette is 4-9 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and is making its first appearance since the 2010-11 season when the squad was a No. 8 seed and reached the second round. The Golden Eagles have never advanced past the second round.

The Golden Eagles won their first BIG EAST Tournament title in program history and are riding an eight-game winning streak dating back to Feb. 5. Their 25-7 overall record is the best since the 2010-11 squad finished with a 24-9 overall record.
