Marquette Outlasts South Carolina State, 4-3

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team claimed a narrow 4-3 victory over South Carolina State, in Orangeburg, S.C. on Saturday afternoon.

Marquette (13-6) opened scoring by claiming all three doubles matches. The No. 1 duo of Silvia Ambrosio and Paula Tormos Sanchez claimed a 6-4 victory, and are now 11-1 at the No. 1 doubles position.

In singles play, Tormos Sanchez claimed Marquette's second point of the afternoon by outlasting her opponent, 6-1, 6-3. Fleur Eggink would follow by claiming a 6-4, 6-1 victory in her match.

South Carolina State collected a point at the No. 5 singles position, before Ambrosio clinched the fourth and decisive point for the Golden Eagles, winning her match in straight sets (6-2, 7-5).

The Golden Eagles will now return home to prepare for a two-match homestand against BIG EAST foes DePaul and Seton Hall on Apr. 21 and 23, respectively. The Golden Eagles will then hit the road for the BIG EAST Tournament from Apr. 27-30.
